Had to pick between spray foam and rigid foam for my garage ceiling
I'm about to insulate my garage ceiling here in ABQ and went back and forth for WEEKS on which to use. Ended up going with closed cell spray foam because of the air sealing benefits, cost me about $1,800 for a two car garage. The difference in temperature is NIGHT and DAY, my garage stays cool even when it's 100 outside now. Any ABQ folks have experience with how these two hold up over a few summers?

Went with rigid foam in my last place and uh... let's just say my garage was more of a "challenged temperature zone" than anything else. I'd get in there to grab a cold drink and somehow end up sweating through my shirt. That closed cell spray foam price tag makes me wince a little, but hearing it stays cool when it's 100 out makes me wonder if I shouldn't have just bitten the bullet. Maybe I'm just too cheap for my own good, I spent more time measuring rigid foam sheets than I did actually enjoying the garage. Left a few gaps too, so the air sealing was more of a suggestion than a reality.

Man, @coleman.gray you hit the nail on the head. Rigid foam is a pain to get right and those gaps kill the whole point. Spray foam is expensive but at least you know it's doing its job.

Spray foam is definitely the way to go if you want it done right the first time. The price tag hurts but so does redoing rigid foam when you mess it up. My cousin paid a pro for closed cell in his shop and that thing stays ice cold even in July. Sometimes you just gotta pay to play.
