That stubborn curtain rod had me ready to throw it out the window.

Spent all afternoon fighting with it, and my arms are sore. But when the light hits the curtains just right now, I catch myself smiling every time.

Worth it. Was it one of those ones where the bracket screws just wouldn't catch in the drywall? I had a rod that the little set screw to tighten it kept stripping, so I had to hold the whole thing up while trying to turn this tiny Allen key with shaky arms. Felt like a victory just getting it to stay put. But then you hang the curtains and that first time the sun glows through the fabric, all the swearing and soreness just fades away. Makes the room feel totally new.

Try switching to those hollow wall anchors for plaster. They spread the pressure out so the screw actually grabs something solid. That final moment when the light hits right makes all the fiddling totally worth it.

Disagree, those anchors often fail in old plaster, making the whole process more frustrating.

Totally get that feeling @sean457 when "all the swearing and soreness just fades away." I read something once about how older plaster walls can just crumble behind the drywall layer, so the screw hits a dust pocket and never grabs. My last place was like that. I ended up using those hollow wall anchors that look like little plastic sleeves for every single bracket. Took three trips to the hardware store, but man, when those curtains finally went up and pooled on the floor just right, it was like the room finally took a deep breath.
