Shoutout to the desert gas station fix that changed my take on tire plugs
I saw tire plugs as only a short-term patch. On a long ride through Arizona, I got a flat with no real shop for miles. The guy working there walked me through his plug technique, and it held up perfectly until I got home. Now I keep a kit in my bag and use it without worry on the road.

Reading your Arizona story, I had a similar moment at a lone truck stop in Nevada. The key is not just the plug but how you prep the hole and seat it right. I used to doubt them too until I saw a mechanic do it with the right glue and tools. Now I trust a good plug job more than some quick patches from shops. It turns a panic situation into just a minor delay on the road. That kind of self-reliance is worth more than any roadside service plan.

You saw a mechanic use glue on a plug?

Heard from a friend who's a trucker that the rubber cement is the real secret, lets the plug bond right. Makes sense why some hold and others fail.
