Why I'm glad I ignored advice to toss my avocado pit

Everyone says avocado pits are a waste of time and you should just buy a tree. I stuck with mine for three whole years, changing the water regularly. When it finally sprouted a root last week, I felt so proud. That tiny green shoot is my little win against instant results.

Good for you! I kept a pineapple top alive for almost two years before it finally grew new leaves... felt the same way.

@brianhill Two years is a serious wait. What was it doing the whole time before the new leaves? Just sitting there as a green top? I’m curious what finally made it turn a corner.

Skip the pit and buy a tree. Three years of water changes? Waste of time. Get fast results.
