Hot take: I cleared out half my sock drawer and it's weirdly satisfying.

Part of me thinks keeping backups is smart, but having less to sort through each morning is a real win. Do you go for practicality or peace of mind in these tiny steps?

But isn't it risky to toss so many socks? I keep all my odd ones because you never know when you'll need a spare. Last month my washer broke and I wore mismatched pairs for a week, no big deal. A full drawer means I'm ready for rainy days or last minute gym trips. Sorting through a few extra socks each morning is a small price for never running out. How do you handle it when you're down to your last pair?

Totally get your point about the washer breaking, that's such a real worry! I actually read this short article about minimalist habits that said keeping too many "just in case" items creates more daily stress than it prevents. It said a small, curated set of backups is better than a huge pile of maybes. Ever since I read that, I pair what I can and keep like three solid spare pairs, not a drawer full of singles. It feels less chaotic and I still never run out.

Marie went nuts on her sock drawer last week. Had dozens of mismatched pairs. Tossed most of them. Now she swears by the empty space. Still keeps a few good backups for laundry day. Calls it her simple win.

My coworker did that with his email inbox and calls it freedom.
