PSA: I thought fighting afternoon sleepiness meant more caffeine, but nope

I install fences, so by mid-afternoon, my energy would just drop. For years, I'd reach for another soda or coffee to keep going. My sister kept telling me to drink water instead, but I brushed it off as dumb. Last week, I forgot my drinks and only had water all day. To my surprise, I didn't crash as hard and felt more steady. Now I'm swapping one sugary drink for water each afternoon, and it helps a ton. I'm honestly confused why something so simple works better, but I'm sticking with it. Guess I was overcomplicating things lmao.

Thought the same about needing coffee to push through the 3pm slump at my office job. Tried the water thing on a whim last Tuesday and actually made it to 5 without feeling like a zombie. My brain just works better when it's not bouncing between caffeine highs and sugar crashes. Still have my morning cup, but that afternoon swap is a game changer.

I see lopez.quinn talking about how their brain works better without caffeine highs and crashes, but that's just one view. For physical jobs like fencing, water alone doesn't give you the kick to power through the last hours. Caffeine is a reliable tool for instant focus when your body is tired, and you can learn to use it without a bad crash. Sugar might not be perfect, but it fuels your muscles fast when you're running on empty. Relying on water feels like ignoring what actually works for getting tough work done. So sometimes the simple answer is to stick with what gives you real energy, not switch to something that just leaves you flat.

Can't argue with that, but my own attempt to ditch caffeine ended with me napping at my desk. Saw what lopez.quinn said and gave it a shot, but I guess my body's still hooked on the quick fix.
