Overheard a foreman at the supply yard say he never uses a glass suction cup for anything under 100 pounds.
He said two hands and good gloves are safer for control. I've always used a cup on big 48x84 panels, but maybe he's got a point. Do you guys trust cups for smaller lifts?

My old boss had a rule for anything under 80 pounds. He said the cup gives a false sense of security and your grip is more honest.

The foreman's logic tracks with what @the_jessica mentioned about an honest grip. A cup can make you forget how a panel wants to twist until it's too late. For anything I can actually muscle around, I skip the cup now.

Totally agree about the cup giving a false sense of security. I tweaked my wrist last year on a light door because the cup stuck and the whole thing torqued. Now I just go barehanded for anything I can actually lift.
