Been using a standard graphite paddle for years but just switched to a marver with a water trough

I was working on a complex color overlay last week and the paddle kept sticking and pulling the glass, but the wet marver gave me a much smoother, more controlled surface without any drag. It felt like I had way more time to shape things before the piece got too stiff. Has anyone else found a specific tool that changed how you handle color application?

Graphite paddles work fine if you know how to use them right. A wet marver is just another tool, not some magic fix. It sounds like you might have been working the glass too cold before. The real skill is in managing your heat, not switching gear every time you hit a snag. What were you doing differently with the heat that made the paddle fail?

So when you say working it too cold, do you mean the paddle was grabbing because the core temp dropped before I even tried to shape it? I might have been rushing the transfer from the furnace to the bench.

Managing your heat" sounds like a lot of pressure, like it's some huge secret. It's just glass, not rocket science.
