Serious question, why are gadget reviews all about the first week?

I just got a new fitness tracker, and the reviews made it sound perfect. But after a month, the heart rate monitor gets all weird when I sweat. No one mentioned that in any review I read. It's like they only test these things in a clean lab or something. I wish reviews would show how gadgets work in real life, not just when they're new.

Yeah that's not really a lab vs real life problem, it's a time problem. Most tech reviewers get products maybe two weeks before launch and have to rush out content. They're basically testing how it works when it's fresh out of the box. The stuff you're talking about, like sensors failing after a month of sweat, never shows up because they don't live with the gadget that long. It's a broken system for figuring out what's actually good.

Actually yeah, I never really thought about the time crunch they're under.

That new PhoneBuff YouTube video pointed out reviewers only test phones for like 12 days. So @grace922 is totally right, they'd never catch a battery that dies fast after six months.
