Had a client bring in a 1920s oak sideboard last week, covered in about eight layers of paint.

Why would anyone paint over beautiful oak like that?

Remember my buddy bought a house with dark oak cabinets that made the whole kitchen feel like a cave. His wife hated how gloomy it was, so they painted them a light cream color. The room instantly felt bigger and brighter, and they actually use the kitchen now. Sometimes the wood color just doesn't work for how people live.
