Rant: The new guys keep rushing the mold shakeout and it's costing us good castings
Honestly, I've seen three new hires in the last two months pull patterns way too fast. They think if the sand is cool to the touch, it's ready. Ngl, that's just the surface. The core inside is still hot enough to cause shrinkage cracks. I watched one guy pull a 20-pound gear blank last Tuesday and you could hear the sand core crack. We had to scrap the whole thing. How do you all train for proper cooling times on bigger jobs? Do you go by a set clock or just by feel?

We had the same problem. The old foreman made us write down the pour time and weight on a tag tied to the mold. You couldn't touch it until the clock said so.

Thought that was dumb... until it saved our batch.
