Always thought those 'mystery seeds' people posted about were just weeds.
Found a patch of them by the creek trail in Riverside Park last Tuesday. Took a picture and used that plant ID app, PlantNet. Turns out they're American lotus seeds, Nelumbo lutea. The app said they're native and actually pretty rare around here now. Anyone else find something they totally misjudged?

Hold on, you found actual American lotus in Riverside Park? That creek trail is right by the old industrial lot. I walked my dog there for years and just assumed anything interesting was long gone. The idea that something that rare survived next to all that concrete is hard to believe.

Nah, that tracks for me. Nature's stubborn, finds a way in the weirdest spots. Concrete cracks, seeds wait.
