Why does nobody talk about learning to tat lace anymore?

I found a vintage instruction book and gave it a shot, and it's surprisingly relaxing. My first few attempts are messy, but I'm getting the hang of it, lol.

At the community center downtown, they have a tatting class every Thursday night that's always full. Honestly, I see posts about it all the time on craft forums and Instagram, so it's not like it's some lost art. Tbh, people just moved on to faster hobbies like punch needle or cricut crafts because they give quick results. My mom's guild even sells tatted jewelry at local markets, so it's still out there making money.

My grandma used to make these tiny crochet snowflakes every Christmas. She'd starch them stiff and hang them on the tree with white thread. Always reminded me of fancy lace, just smaller and with a hook instead of a shuttle.

Is it just that these old crafts get quietly forgotten? @brianhill mentioning his grandma's snowflakes totally hits that same vibe of making delicate, pretty things by hand. I have a box of my great-aunt's tatted doilies that feel like holding onto a secret skill.
