Warning: If you're trying to restore a 1950s slide rule, don't use WD-40 on the cursor.
It dissolves the original hairline on the glass, which I learned after ruining my grandpa's Keuffel & Esser model. Anyone know a safe cleaner for old celluloid scales?

My buddy wrecked his dad's old slide rule the same way. He used some lens cleaner for glasses on another one and it worked fine. Maybe try something gentle like that.

But come on, it's just a slide rule. It's a piece of old plastic or wood. If it's already wrecked, what's the worst that happens? You try some Windex and it gets a little hazy? It's not like you're cleaning a museum piece. My grandpa's was covered in pencil marks and coffee stains and it still worked fine. People are acting like it's a priceless antique.

Yeah, that's a solid tip.
