Serious question, is hand-dipping candles actually better than using modern molds?

I tried both last winter, and the hand-dipped ones from my grandma's 1970s guide burned for almost 40 minutes longer. The layered wax from dipping just seems to hold up better. Anyone have a forgotten method that actually beats the modern way?

Watched my buddy try to make his own birthday candles last year. He used a mold from a craft store. They looked perfect but burned down in like two minutes flat. Then his mom sent over her old dipping set. The ones he dipped by hand burned slow and even, lasted the whole cake. He said the wax layers from dipping just fuse together better. Totally changed his mind.

Serious question" is doing a lot of work here. It's just candles.

But what's the point of calling them "serious" if they're just candles? Feels like they're trying too hard to make it a big deal. It's just a basic thing with fancy words.
