Just found a whole box of my grandpa's old leather stamping tools in his garage in Akron

Honestly, I was cleaning out the place last weekend and pulled out this heavy wooden crate. Inside were all these metal stamps, a mallet, and a few half-finished belts with designs pressed into them. Tbh, it hit me that nobody does this kind of detailed leatherwork by hand anymore, it's all mass-produced stuff. I'm thinking of trying to finish one of the belts he started, but I have no clue where to even begin. Has anyone here actually kept up with leather stamping as a hobby?

Wow, start by just practicing on scrap leather first.

Check if the stamps have his initials or a maker's mark, that history is part of the craft too lol.

My grandpa's old wood stamps still smell like his workshop.
