Just realized I've been charging way too little for my wedding work

Last week, I did a wedding in Austin with a $500 budget for the bride's bouquet, six bridesmaids, and all the centerpieces. Three years ago, I would have taken that job and been happy for it. Last month, I sat down and actually tracked my hours on a similar job, and I made about $12 an hour after costs. Everyone in my local group says to keep prices low to stay competitive, but I think that's how we burn out. I'm raising my minimum for full weddings to $800 starting next season. Has anyone else made this switch and did you lose a lot of bookings?

That "keep prices low to stay competitive" line is the real trap. It just makes everyone tired and poor, like @charlesm50 found out. Charging more filters out the clients who don't value your time.

Honestly, raised my rates and got better clients.

Wait, is that actually how it works for everyone though? I raised mine once and just got a bunch of ghosting lol. Feels like a gamble that only pays off if you're already established.
