Ditch the pre-made bouquet hooks, just use rubber bands
I used to spend $15 a week on those little plastic bouquet holders from the floral supply store. Then about 6 months ago I ran out during a big wedding order and just grabbed a box of rubber bands from my truck. Turns out they hold stems way tighter, don't crack in the cooler, and a $5 box lasts me 3 months. Has anyone else swapped out some overpriced florist gadget for something from the hardware store?

Does the rubber band leave any marks or indentions on delicate stems after a few hours in the cooler? I've had that happen with cheaper elastics, so I stick with the holders for anything going to a high-end client.

oh totally, @annaw73, i had a buddy who used cheap rubber bands on some peonies for a wedding order and the stems looked all dented and sad after a few hours in the cooler. he switched to the fabric-covered ones after that and never looked back.

Wait, did your friend try those green coated ones from the hardware store? My buddy used those on some tulips once and they left this weird sticky film on the stems, it was a total nightmare.
