Walked through a new condo building in Austin and the 'luxury' vinyl plank felt like a cheap hotel floor.

It's practical, sure, but it always has that hollow, fake sound when you walk on it. The fake wood grain patterns are a dead giveaway up close. They just can't copy the real feel of wood.

Actually that stuff is super practical for a rental. It holds up to spills and heavy foot traffic way better than real wood. The look has gotten a lot better too.

Yeah, but that hollow sound is the worst part, right? It just feels cheap under your feet, no matter how good it looks. I get the point about it being tough for rentals, but it still feels like living on top of a plastic sheet. Can't they make it feel solid without costing a fortune?
