My zipper foot broke right in the middle of finishing a dress for a friend's wedding

I mean, it was the final step on this satin bridesmaid dress, and the whole metal piece just snapped off. I had to run to the craft store in Burbank at like 9 PM to get a new one, and they only had the generic kind. Has anyone else had a crucial tool fail at the worst time? What's your backup plan?

Oh man, that "run to the craft store at 9 PM" panic is so real. I read a blog post once where someone kept a whole spare basic sewing kit in their car for emergencies.
