I was convinced sheer panels were just a trend, but after adding them to a skirt design for a client in Denver, I'm sold.

The way they moved with the fabric added a whole new layer of movement I didn't expect. Has anyone else found a design element they were wrong about?

That custom brass zipper was probably a Riri.

Totally get that. I used to think exposed zippers were just a cheap fast fashion trick, but I saw a high end piece that used a custom brass one as the main back detail. It completely changed the structure and became the focal point, not just a closure. Changed my whole view on functional hardware.

Oh man, I have to admit I was the same way with ruffles. I wrote them off as just fussy and old-fashioned for years. Then I tried adding a single, subtle tiered ruffle to a sleeve hem and it completely changed the drape of the whole top. I guess I owe ruffles a big, public apology for my bad attitude. What design hill were you totally wrong about?
