Saw a guy at the fairgrounds rasping the sole flat on a healthy foot, and it made me cringe.
I was taught to only remove flaky, dead sole, but some farriers argue a flat surface is better for shoe fit. Which camp are you in and why?

Honestly that's a tough watch for sure. Seen that method before and it just seems like taking off way too much good foot. You only need to clean up the flaky stuff, not grind it flat. A healthy sole shouldn't be thin. @burns.jenny might think it's not a big deal, but removing that much protection can really make a horse sore. A good shoe fit doesn't need a flat sole, it needs the right trim.

Maybe it's just me but I don't get the big deal, @rubyshah. Seen way worse things online that didn't get this kind of reaction. It's probably not even that serious when you look at the full story. People are making a huge deal out of nothing these days.
