Bought a new propane forge last winter for about $800 and it's been a game changer

My old coal forge was fine, but working in the cold was brutal. This one heats up way faster and holds temp better, so I'm not fighting it all day. It paid for itself by spring just from the time saved on basic shoe shaping. Anyone else switch from coal to gas and have tips for keeping the burner ports clean?

Congrats on the new forge, that's a huge upgrade. Just a heads up, the burner ports on those can get clogged pretty fast if you're not careful (slag and scale love to fly up in there). A quick brush with a stiff wire brush while everything's cooling down works way better than trying to clean them cold. Some guys use a small pick or drill bit by hand if it gets really bad, but brushing often means you rarely need to.

My first forge lasted about a month before the ports were totally blocked. I was trying to clean it cold like an idiot.

Oh man, a small pick is a lifesaver for those clogged ports.
