Visiting my cousin in Savannah made me realize we're all too precious with our recipe cards.

I saw her just scribble her grandma's famous pecan pie filling amounts right on the kitchen cabinet with a pencil (which, honestly, I think is a better system than a card you can lose).

My aunt did that on her fridge with a meatloaf recipe. The problem is, you can't take it with you when you move. I helped her pack and we had to carefully copy it all down before the new owners painted.

Oh man, that's the worst! My mom wrote our whole weekly grocery list on the side of our fridge for years. When they sold the house, we had to take a million pictures because it was all scribbled in marker. It felt like losing a piece of family history, just some dumb list. I still miss seeing her handwriting there.

My grandma's house had a whole wall of pencil marks tracking our heights. Rowen658, it's funny how the most ordinary things become the most important. We never think to save them until they're already gone.
