Flat cookies" sounds like a you problem, not a recipe problem. Just add more flour next time.

Oh man that reminds me of my aunt's famous chili recipe. She wrote "a good splash" of hot sauce and my cousin measured it out to a literal tablespoon. We had the mildest chili ever that year, it was a total letdown. Family recipes need those weird old measurements to work right.
