TIL the weird noise at the laundromat was a dryer eating a quarter

I was at Suds on 12th Street last Tuesday waiting for my spin cycle to end, and this lady's dryer kept making this awful clunk every 10 seconds. I figured it was broken, but she just smiled and said it was trying to swallow her coin. Turns out she left a quarter in her pocket, and the machine was just bouncing it around the drum every rotation. Has anyone else caught a random object messing with their laundry like that?

Honestly, that happened to me once with a single bobby pin that somehow got folded into a bedsheet. I was at the Launderland on Elm and my machine started making this high-pitched scrape every time it rotated, like a cat crying for help. I almost called the maintenance guy but then I pulled the sheet out and this tiny pin dropped onto the floor. It's wild how one small thing can make a whole machine sound like it's breaking down. Ngl, I felt kinda dumb but also relieved it wasn't a real mechanical issue. Hope your dryer didn't get too banged up from that quarter bouncing around.

That one quarter in the right spot can make such a racket really gets me thinking though. I had this happen with a single metal button off a jacket once, it was like a maraca from hell in the machine at the Laundromat in my old building on 4th. Did you ever check if the quarter actually came out the other end, or did it get stuck somewhere in the drum? Because I swear that button of mine vanished into thin air and I never saw it again. I bet that lady's quarter is still bouncing around in that dryer, just waiting to drive the next person crazy.

Honestly, people act like a quarter bouncing around is some big mystery. It's just a coin making noise, it's not that deep.

Wait, you're telling me dryers don't just make weird noises for no reason?
