Spent $50 on a cheap air fryer and it burned my kitchen counter

I saw a $50 air fryer on sale and thought it was a steal. Used it for two weeks before the bottom got so hot it melted a ring right into my laminate countertop. Now I'm looking at a $400 counter repair bill because I skimped on the appliance. Has anyone else had a budget gadget ruin something expensive?

Man that sucks. Cheap appliances are always a gamble. I had a $30 toaster catch fire once. Melted the plastic on my counter. Learned my lesson the hard way. Spend a little more next time.

The $30 toaster thing is rough but honestly even the expensive ones can be junk too. I bought a $80 KitchenAid toaster and it died after 6 months same way, caught fire inside. It's not always about price, some brands just have bad batches or bad designs. My mom still uses a $20 toaster from 2015 that works fine.

Did the air fryer at least cook good food before it torched your counter, @craig.john?
