Question about that new peptide serum everyone's been talking about

Used it on a client with mild perioral dermatitis, and it triggered a full flare-up within 24 hours. Anyone have a gentler alternative for compromised barrier skin?

Actually think that serum gets a bad rap sometimes. Peptides are supposed to help repair skin, not hurt it. Could have been another ingredient in the mix that caused the flare, or maybe the dermatitis was already about to get worse. Sometimes skin freaks out before it gets better, like a purge. Might be worth trying it again on a small patch once everything calms down.

Yeah, that serum is way too strong for active dermatitis... the peptides can be really stimulating on broken skin. Seen it happen a few times now. Honestly, you need to drop all actives and just focus on basic repair for a few weeks. Once the skin is totally calm, something with just ceramides and maybe one simple peptide, like copper tripeptide, could be a safer bet to try.

Totally agree, Tessa nailed it. I wrecked my barrier last year with a fancy peptide cream and it took months to fix. Simple ceramide moisturizer was the only thing that helped.
