Just realized half the guys at my shop are still using the old 3/8 inch drive on modern door operators

I watched two guys fight a stuck bolt on a Dover MRL for 20 minutes before I pointed out the spec sheet calls for a 1/2 inch drive. They said the smaller one 'always worked before', but the torque specs on newer units are different. Are we just being stubborn, or is there a real reason to stick with the old tools?

You ever think maybe the spec sheet is wrong? I've seen them list crazy high torque for stuff that just needs a good hand tight. That 3/8 drive has the right feel, and you're less likely to strip something out by cranking it with a big breaker bar. Sometimes the old way is just more careful.

Exactly, that "feel" prevents so many stripped threads.

What if the smaller drive hides worn parts?
