Saw a massive sediment plume from a dredge on the Columbia River last week

I was driving along I-5 near Vancouver and saw this huge brown cloud in the water from what looked like a big cutterhead operation. It stretched for what had to be half a mile downstream. Got me thinking about how you guys manage that kind of silt spread in a fast-moving current. What's the usual plan for that?

Those plumes are actually good for the river, they spread nutrients downstream.

My buddy who works on barges said they use silt curtains to try and contain it, but in a current like the Columbia it's a real fight.

Not sure it's that big a deal, @julia549. That silt settles out pretty fast in a river that size.
