I thought those new digital calipers were just a gimmick until I had to measure a thousandth of an inch tolerance on a part for a client in Denver last year and the old vernier ones just weren't cutting it...

The digital readout saved me from a massive rework and now I won't go back, but has anyone else found a specific job that forced you to finally switch from an old tool you loved?

But is a tape measure fail, @ray_miller84, really that big a deal?

Totally. My old tape measure failed on a tricky cabinet install.

What exactly went wrong with it? Did the lock give out and the tape snap back, or was the hook bent so your measurements were off? Those old ones can really mess up a project at the worst time.
