Rain barrels are popping up on every other porch now

It looks like collecting rainwater is the new neighborhood project.

Those aren't just any rain barrels. Saw one down the block that looked like a fancy copper planter with brass fittings. Must have cost more than my patio furniture. People are going all out for this.

Honestly saw one last week that was basically a giant terracotta urn with a spigot. Makes you wonder if this is still about saving water or just showing off. Like when did a simple plastic drum become too basic for suburbia? Tbh I'd rather spend that money on better soil or plants that actually need less watering.
