I used to hammer my fence posts in, now I just use a post hole digger and gravel

It took me about 5 years of fixing the same section of fence every spring before I figured this out. My neighbor Jerry came over last April when I was out there with the sledgehammer and told me I was doing it all wrong. He said just dig the hole a bit wider, put in some gravel at the bottom for drainage, then set the post. I tried it on two posts that were rotted out from sitting in wet dirt. That was 8 months ago and they haven't budged. Before I was just pounding them into the ground and hoping for the best. Anyone else stuck in their old ways on something simple like this?

There's always that one neighbor who saves you years of bad habits.
