Lost my whole client folder in Bangkok and it took 11 days to fix
I had everything on one external drive, thought I was fine. It died on a Tuesday in a coworking space near Sukhumvit. The drive recovery shop quoted me 400 US dollars and two weeks, so I spent 11 days rebuilding contracts, invoices, and client notes from emails and chat history. Now all my files live in three separate cloud services and one local backup, and I rotate a fresh copy every Sunday. Has anyone else lost important data mid-trip, and what did you do in that first hour?
What was the first thing you actually did when the drive died, like did you try plugging it into a different laptop or did you just know it was gone? I'm asking because I always wonder if I'd panic and make it worse (I probably would). Also, why 11 days instead of just waiting out the shop?
