Broke my foot on a hostel bunk ladder in Lisbon and it rewrote my whole packing list
I was climbing down from the top bunk at a hostel in Lisbon three months ago and my foot slipped off the ladder, and I ended up in a public clinic waiting 4 hours with a swollen ankle. That 22 euro hostel stay turned into a 300 euro medical bill and two weeks of limping around, and it made me rethink how I sleep in shared rooms. Has anyone else had a small thing like that mess up their setup, and how do you handle injuries when you're far from home?

300 euro for a sprained ankle at a public clinic in Lisbon? I've been to those clinics and they cost way less unless you skipped the health card thing and got the tourist rate. A broken foot usually means you can't walk at all, but you said you were limping around for two weeks, which sounds more like a bad sprain. Falling off a bunk ladder is rough, sure, but people climb those things drunk every night in every hostel in Europe and mostly walk it off. One slip doesn't mean you need to rebuild your whole packing list or rethink how you sleep in shared rooms. Sounds like bad luck more than a real lesson.
