Appreciation post: My $40 local SIM card in Medellin saved me from a huge data bill.

I bought a Claro SIM with a 30-day data plan at the airport, and having reliable, cheap internet for maps and calls let me focus on finding a good co-working spot instead of hunting for wifi. What's your go-to for staying connected in a new country?

Did the same thing in Bangkok, total lifesaver.

Right? @brians91, it's the only way to go. Did you find it made the whole city feel way less overwhelming?

Actually did the opposite in Bangkok.

Totally changes the game, doesn't it? Felt like I could actually breathe and figure things out. Going against the usual advice was the best call. Made the whole trip feel way more like my own adventure instead of just following a crowd. You get to see a different side of the city that way.
