Keyword rank tracker lied to me for 6 weeks straight

I've been using this rank tracking tool for 3 months now, and last week I found out it was showing me page 1 positions for terms that were actually on page 4 in incognito mode. Turns out the tool was pulling data from my own location and logged-in browser history, not a neutral server. I wasted 6 weeks optimizing content that never moved, plus I told my client we were ranking when we weren't. Has anyone else caught their tracker doing this? What do you use that gives actual reliable data?
