Lost $150 on a digital art portfolio site that promised to get me discovered

Signed up for ArtPortfolioPro back in March. They said they'd promote my work to galleries and collectors. After three months I got zero views from their system. Wasted my money and my time uploading everything. Anyone else get burned by one of these showcase services?

That $150 stings, but I once paid $200 for a "social media bootcamp" that turned out to be a guy reading from a 2015 blog post in a Zoom room. I feel your pain, honestly. These showcase sites are basically just digital guestbooks with no real traffic. You'd probably get more eyes on your work by posting it on a random Reddit thread or a free Instagram page. Live and learn, I guess. At least the guy from my bootcamp had a cat that walked across his keyboard, so I got some entertainment out of it.

Are you really that surprised though? I mean, every week there's a new site popping up promising to "get you discovered" for a fee... it's been like that forever. These places are basically just a landing page with your work on it, they don't actually have connections to real galleries or serious collectors. The whole business model is getting artists to pay them, not selling art.

Not gonna lie, @elliot_patel, the cat story is still the best part of that deal.
