Switched to bypass oil filters on my F-250 and oil looks clean at 10k miles

Ngl I was skeptical about those bypass setups for a while, but after 10,000 miles on the same oil, my sample came back with no metal shavings. Cut the filter open and it looked almost new. Anyone else run these long term?

My buddy ran a bypass on his Cummins for about 60,000 miles before he sold the truck. He changed the oil every 15,000 miles and sent samples off to Blackstone each time. Every report came back clean like the oil was barely used. The only thing he noticed was he had to top off a quart every 3,000 miles or so from the bypass burning off a tiny bit. He never had an engine issue and the guy who bought it still runs it today.

That line about the oil coming back "clean like it was barely used" is exactly what I saw on my own setup. I ran a similar bypass on my 7.3 Powerstroke for about 80,000 miles before I sold it. I did the same thing with extended intervals and Blackstone samples, and every single report showed the oil still had plenty of life left. I did notice I had to add about half a quart every 2,500 miles from consumption, but that was it. Never had a single issue with the engine, and the new owner hasn't had any problems either. It's just one of those things where if you keep up with the samples and top off regularly, it works pretty much like your buddy said.

Wonder if the bypass throws off oil temp readings enough to matter.
