Had a $300 injector pump fail on me in Iowa last Tuesday - changed my whole view on rebuilding vs buying new

dude you got unlucky but that doesn't mean rebuilding is always the answer. i had a local shop rebuild a pump for me once and it came back leaking worse than before, plus they took three weeks and charged me $250 for a paperweight. new pumps come with a warranty and actual engineering tolerances, not some guy named Bob guessing at clearances. i'll take a $400 new pump over a $300 rebuilt one that grenades on my way to a job site any day. that piece of mind is worth way more than saving a hundred bucks upfront.

Saw a guy on a different forum break down the math on this and he figured the average rebuild only lasts about 60% as long as a new unit before needing work again. That gap gets even bigger once you factor in downtime and labor to swap it out a second time. Small sample size obviously but matches what I've heard from a few mechanics who do this day in and out.
