The guy next to me on the bus kept popping his gum every 3 seconds on the way downtown yesterday
I was trying to read my book on the 7:15 AM bus to the city center and this dude just sat there snapping his gum like it was a drum solo (seriously, for 20 minutes straight). It made my teeth hurt just listening to it. Has anyone else had a public transport noise experience that made you want to switch to a car just for the peace and quiet?

Its actually pretty common for gum to make that sound when someone's popping it, not snapping it - snapping is more of a finger thing. But yeah, I get what you mean, that repetitive popping noise can get under your skin real fast. Ive had luck with noise-canceling earbuds on buses, though your mileage may vary depending on how loud the chewer is.

Yeah exactly, "depends on how loud the chewer is" - I've found that noise-canceling earbuds work okay but they don't block the really close-up crackle. Sometimes I just move seats if it's that bad.

Ngl, popping and snapping are kinda the same thing with gum though. Snapping is that sharp crack when the bubble breaks, not just fingers.
