Debate: Is it rude to take up two parking spots on purpose or are people just jealous of my truck?

Had a convo with my buddy Mark last week after he parked his F-250 across the lines at the grocery store in Columbus. He said he does it to avoid door dings and people should get over it. But I argued it makes him look like a jerk and wastes space for other drivers. Now I'm stuck wondering if he's got a point about protecting his ride or if he's just being entitled. What do you all think, is it okay to park like that or is it a major peeve?

Worked parking lot security in Cincinnati for two summers. Saw a guy with a pristine dually get keyed from bumper to bumper in about ten seconds because he took up two spots in a crowded lot. People are petty about this stuff. If you're really worried about dings, park way out in the back where nobody goes, that's what every sensible truck owner I know does. Blocking two spaces just makes you a target and wastes space for families with kids who actually need it.

You're exactly right. I remember one time in a packed lot at a mall, some guy in a lifted truck took up two spots right near the entrance. Within maybe five minutes, somebody had drawn a line all the way down the driver's side with a key, clear as day. It's just not worth the hassle. People see that as arrogant, and they'll take it out on your paint job. Like you said, the smart move is to park in the back where there's plenty of room and nobody cares. That way you keep your truck safe and you don't look like you think you're better than everyone else.

I read somewhere that a lot of those mall parking lots actually have cameras now, but people still don't care. They'll key your truck anyway just out of spite. It's wild how fast a crowd can turn on someone who looks like they're taking advantage. I always park way out at the end of a row too, even in my little sedan. Saves the headache.
