Watch out for swapped bottle caps, found glue on 3 jars from last month's trade

Picked up a box of Mason jars at the park meetup on Saturday and the lids had dried glue under the rim, looks like someone tried to reseal old salsa jars and pass them off as clean. Has anyone else gotten food containers that looked fine but had hidden residue, how do you check before you bring them home?

That's a bummer, getting sneaky residue like that is a real pain to deal with. Wiping the rims with a paper towel before buying is the only trick I've found that catches it.
