DAE stop buying books and start swapping them at the coffee shop on 5th
I used to buy every book I wanted on Amazon, usually 3 or 4 a month, and my shelf in Denver got so full I had to stack them on the floor. Then about 8 months ago a guy at my local coffee shop on 5th asked if I wanted to trade a paperback for his copy of a thriller he was done with. I said sure and now we have a whole bin by the door where people drop off books they finished and grab something new for free. I have not paid for a book since March and I have read 11 of them. It feels dumb that I spent years buying stuff I would read once and never touch again. Has anyone else set up a swap spot in their neighborhood, and how do you keep people from just taking everything?
Yes! Did the same thing at my laundromat last year and it just took off. Get a cheap plastic bin with a lid and put a note on it saying take one leave one, that cut down on the hoarders big time. Nobody wants to be the jerk who raids the free book bin.
