Four hours to change a lightbulb, seriously
My bathroom ceiling fixture burned out on Tuesday, and I figured a quick swap. It took four hours because the previous owner had painted over the mounting screws, so I had to chip away paint and then fight a seized nut. I finally borrowed a breaker bar from my neighbor Carl in Portland, and the whole thing came loose in one turn. Does anyone else have a simple house fix that turned into a full afternoon project?

Buddy of mine spent a whole Saturday swapping a thermostat, turns out the old one had a wire shoved so deep in the wall it was basically welded to a stud. He ended up cutting a hole in the drywall just to pull it out, then had to patch that too. That's when I learned to always take a picture of the wiring before you touch anything.
