My color mixing was off for 4 years until one orange glob appeared

I paint miniatures and always mixed my paints on a wet palette, but last week I left one out too long and the darker pigment separated into a weird orange ring. That's when I realized I never actually let my paints sit first, so my "brown" was really just muddy red this whole time. Anyone else have a paint that only behaves after it sits for 10 minutes?

That part about "muddy red" hit me hard because my buddy Dan had the exact same thing with his flesh tones. He was painting a whole squad of orks and could not figure out why his skin looked like dried ketchup until he forgot to clean his palette one night and came back to a weird pink ring around the pigment. He let it sit for like fifteen minutes the next day, mixed it slow, and suddenly it was this perfect warm brown. Now he sets a timer before he even starts painting, just lets the paint breathe on the wet palette while he gets his brushes wet and stuff. It's wild how much the paint changes once it soaks up that water.
