Update: dropped $45 on a no pull harness my dog escaped in 4 minutes
Last Tuesday I bought a no pull harness at the pet store on Elm Street because my beagle thinks every walk is a sled race. The thing had six straps and a pamphlet, and I finally got it on him, then he twisted once and walked right out of it on the corner of 5th and Main. He made it two blocks before I caught him, and I stood there holding the harness like an idiot. Has anyone found a setup that actually keeps a houdini dog in it, or should I just accept my fate?

Did you at least get a good workout chasing him those two blocks? I ask because my beagle did the exact same thing with a harness that had more straps than my winter coat, and I ended up jogging down the street in one shoe yelling like a crazy person. The martingale tip below is solid, mine tightens up when he tries that backward wiggle move and he has not slipped it since. The trick is it has to sit high on the chest, not down by the legs, or they can still squirm out. Also check the fit with two fingers under the straps, because too loose is how my first three attempts went wrong.

That "walked right out of it" thing happened to me too until I got a martingale style harness that tightens a bit when they pull back. Mine has held my escape artist for a year now.
