Rant: My home network was a mess until I finally set up a guest wifi

For years, I just gave my main wifi password to anyone who visited. Friends, family, the guy fixing my fridge. Last month, my smart lights started acting weird, turning on and off by themselves. I got worried someone had messed with my network. My cousin, who works in IT, told me to set up a guest network. I did it on my router in about ten minutes. Now visitors get their own wifi that can't touch my computers or smart home stuff. The random light problems stopped completely. It feels so much safer knowing my main network is locked down. Has anyone else had a device act up because of a shared wifi password?

Read about a similar issue with a neighbor's smart plug going haywire.

Ever think to change your default router password too?

Seriously, how many people are actually trying to hack my router? Feels like worrying about someone stealing my old lawn chair. The default password is usually some crazy long string of numbers anyway.
