A forced system update turned out to be my cybersecurity wake-up call

I mean, I'd constantly postpone those pesky update notifications, believing they could wait. Idk, maybe it's just me, but last week my computer insisted on restarting to install security patches. After it rebooted, I read about the vulnerability it fixed, and it was a serious one targeting browsers. I felt a wave of relief knowing I was protected, kind of a small win in my book. Now I've set all my devices to update automatically, and I even check for updates on my router. It's a simple step, but it makes a huge difference in staying safe online.

Browser vulnerabilities really make you appreciate those restarts...

My ancient desktop finally forced an update last month after I'd ignored it for weeks. I mean, I used to treat update notifications like spam emails, just clicking 'remind me later' until eternity. Seeing what anthony_campbell88 said about browser vulnerabilities, it hit me how dumb that was. Now I'm paranoid and check for updates on everything, even my smart fridge, which probably doesn't need it. Idk, maybe it's just me, but that forced restart was the kick in the pants I needed to take basic security seriously.

Why update anything? @sagehart's forced restart changed my tune.
