Display case humidity almost ruined my vintage postcards
I keep a small collection of 1930s postcards from my grandma's road trips, and I had them in a nice wooden case on my desk in Austin. Last summer the heat and rain got wild, and I noticed the edges starting to curl and a faint moldy smell, which scared me since I'd had them for 12 years without issues. Turns out the case wasn't sealed and the humidity in my apartment was hitting 70% for days straight. I pulled them all out, laid them flat on a dry towel, and set up a cheap dehumidifier I borrowed from a friend for 48 hours. That stopped the curling, but I learned my lesson. Now I keep them in a zippered plastic sleeve with a few silica gel packs inside, and I check them every couple of weeks, especially during monsoon season. Has anyone else dealt with moisture damage on paper collections, and what do you use to keep it dry without spending a ton?

Read somewhere that silica packs need swapping every few months to stay dry.
